Mountain Trekking FAQs
Yes! Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, but it is also known as “The Most Walkable Mountain”, too.
This is because this climb requires no special equipment or skills to reach the summit.
While we highly recommend using trekking poles, but good physical condition and strong fortitude are actually more important to reaching the top than how great your gear is!
You do not need any advanced mountain climbing skills to reach the top.
Accommodations for climbs very based on location or chosen route:
Mount Kilimanjaro:
Marangu: this is the only route on Kilimanjaro where climbers will stay overnight in permanent huts on the mountain.
It’s a great option for budget climbs and for travelers daring to summit Kilimanjaro during the rainy season.
Machame + Rongai: These routes are for camping in tents throughout the climb. Porters will need to carry more items, such as tents, up the mountain. But you’ll have epic scenery and feel closer to nature on these treks.
Mount Meru:
Climbers will overnight in permanent huts on all Mount Meru climbs.
Lake Natron/Ol Doinyo Lengai:
Most of our treks through Ngorongoro Highlands and to Lake Natron include camping in tents. However, if you choose a shorter, 2 or 3 day trek for Ol Doinyo Lengai, you may opt to overnight at a comfortable hotel or lodge in the area.
While Mount Kilimanjaro is a great mountain for beginning climbers, it is still a mighty mountain, standing at 5,895 meters (19,340 feet).
You should be in good physical condition, able to trek for 5-6 hours over the course of the day.
Mt Meru and Mt Ol Doinyo Lengai may be smaller summits, but still require good physical fitness to reach the top.
A regular climb is a private mountain trek. Your group will have the exclusive attention of the climbing crew, and you can decide how to share tents at every camp.
A joining climb is a pre-scheduled climb where couples or individuals can share the cost of porters, a mountain guide and more with a larger group. You’ll have a chance to make friends with other travelers.
You may be bunked in a hut or tent with a stranger, so these adventures are for travelers who are outgoing and interested in trying new experiences.
