Frequently Asked Questions

A Group Tour offers travelers the chance to enjoy a fantastic safari, with other, like-minded travelers. Some of the most popular reasons for joining a group tour include to make friends while traveling, share overall costs of safari and to feel more comfortable while traveling.

Solo travelers may want to join a Group Tour to have an experience with others, instead of doing everything alone. Young travelers who are just experiencing international travel for the first time might feel more comfortable with a set itinerary as part of a group.
Finally, 5 or 6 people sharing the cost of a safari car, accommodations, and guide fees significantly reduces the overall travel costs, compared to a single person or couple paying for an entire safari car between the two of them.

English is the most common language used by guides on a group tour.

If some clients request a Spanish or German-speaking guide, there may be an additional fee for an additional translator/guide.

A Group Tour has a set itinerary for the convenience of the larger group and for planning purposes. Therefore, there are scheduled departure times and a list of locations to visit and activities to do.

While there may be a slight deviation, such as a rest stop enroute or earlier arrival for fast hikers, in general, it should be expected to adhere to the set itinerary. Please be on-time and considerate of others.

Travelers interested in a flexible itinerary who wish to add activities such as day hikes and cultural experiences should consider designing a Custom Safari, instead.

Accommodations while on wildlife viewing safaris range from camping in tents (provided by RA safaris) or mid-range lodges with scenic views, located just outside of national parks.

Safari Accommodations will be on a single-or sharing-basis, unless otherwise stated to observe the comfort and privacy of our clients.

For Kilimanjaro climbs, accommodations are either camping in tents (for Lemosho and Machame routes) or overnight in huts (for Marangu Route). For Kilimanjaro climbs accommodations will be shared, pairing two or three persons (of the same gender) in a tent together. This is because porters must carry every tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag up the mountain, and adding additional tents for every person would require additional porters, too.

Accommodations on Marangu Route are overnight in huts on a sharing basis. Please note, it is the Park Authorities who arrange sleeping in the huts on Marangu, not RA Safaris, and huts may be shared with climbers from other groups and other tour companies, too.

The scheduled activities, mostly game drives and hikes, will be as part of a group. In most cases, your evening time will be yours to do as you like. After checking in to your accommodations or setting up camp, you have the option to take a nature walk or guided bush walk, enjoy a swim in the pool, or simply relax on your own.

It is usually considered polite to eat together as a group, especially dinners, but if you want to enjoy your meals alone, just discuss with the guide so there are no concerns about if you are feeling unwell, ect.

Yes! You can combine any of our private itineraries (Day Trips, Hikes and Climbs or Multi-day Safaris) with any scheduled group tours to balance being in a group with a more secluded, solo experience.

Travelers interested in group tours can be of all ages and backgrounds, but have one thing in common: an interest in seeing the world and meeting new people at the same time.
Since they are also choosing to join a tour, they are usually open-minded, friendly and adventurous – probably just like YOU!

Some of our joining groups have been made up of: recent college graduates, retired couples, backpackers, and expats on an in-country vacation.
