One of the most important archeological sites in the world is Olduvai Gorge. The discovery made by Mary and Louis Leakey in 1959 gave this site the name of the “Cradle of Mankind”.
There are numerical medieval ruins which show historical remains of Tanzania. Starting in the coastal part in Bagamoyo, Kilwa Kisiwani, Kilwa Kivinje, Amboni Caves, Songo Mnara, Mikindani in Mtwara etc. In mainland there is Kondoa Irangi, Engaruka ruins, Kalenga etc.
All these historical areas were governed by different nations during colonial times, starting from Portuguese, Arabs, Germans and English.
